FIFA 16 Adds Women’s National Teams

Women are finally in the newest FIFA video game! Every year EA Sports releases a new FIFA game and this year there are women’s national teams. Yes, now players can be women, in addition, to being athletic guys.

FIFA 16 will officially release in September of this year. It will feature 12 national teams of women, who will compete against each other in a series of matches, including Match Day. The 12 teams include the USA, Canada, Spain, France, Brazil, and Germany. The players will look similar to the men’s versions in terms of their likeness.

The news of the inclusion of female players to the FIFA franchise came via a YouTube trailer released by EA Sports. There are a few limitations though that gaming and sports experts have already spotted, compared to the male player options. For example, the women can only play against other female teams, rather than being eligible to play against any team in the league the way the men’s teams can do.

As well, not all women’s club teams are included in the 16th version. Perhaps with time and more updated versions in years to come the gap between options for male and female teams will lessen. On a positive note, the establishment of these female clubs to the FIFA video game series shows the growing popularity of women’s soccer on a global level.

If you would rather sit on the couch and play soccer virtually, FIFA 16 will likely release in September of this year. The FIFA franchise is a popular one for gamers interested in sports action. It has been dubbed as the “fastest selling sports game ever,” with more than 3 million games sold in its first week of release.

The last version, FIFA 15, went on the market in September of 2014 with the tagline “Feel the game.”
